I’m delighted that Attica Books are bringing out my new book, DEVIL’S SONATA. This is a departure from most of my other books, which are set in the 20s to 50s of the twentieth century.

DEVIL’S SONATA also has its roots in the past, in the sixteenth century at the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries and the eighteenth century, when Philadelphia Beauregard, born and bred at Beauregard Abbey, turned to witchcraft to escape from an unhappy marriage and an oppressive brother.

With Venetian overtones, a setting at an elite English boarding school and the strains of Mozart ringing in the ears, along with the poetry of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, this is a big, rich and complex novel, gothic, supernatural and full of magic and madness.
